Frog--ooops! Toad!

August 26. 2007
Dear parents,
Finally this is working again, thanks to Ms. Olivera, again!! I hope you enjoy finding PHOTOS of your children in action.

SCIENCE: Our class PET created much excitement last week. Cesar found a toad to buy after I ordered a frog. We will observe, draw, read, view video, make booklets, and eat toad eggs!! on FROG and TOAD DAY, on Tuesday, the HALF DAY this week.

READING: Reviewing short vowels sounds, we've read frog books. Ms. McLamb read A Frog in a Bog with them last week as I listened to individual students reading. We have read several books about Froggy, so will try to write our own Froggy story this week.

SPELLING: We are connecting color names to short vowels, and adding number names. Because we are practicing sorting procedures, these words will continue as our spelling words this week. I will give a test on Friday.

BIBLE: The past 2 weeks, students have learned the words to the Disciples' Prayer, Matthew 6: 9-13, in a song. Now we will practice praying as Jesus taught us. This week, we'll learn the 10 P words that describe what God has done, is doing, and will do! These give a framework for the Bible characters we will study all year. Watch for a pink or purple booklet with each P word illustrated to come home later. Ask your child to sing the P Word song.

MATH: After reviewing first grade concepts, students will practice counting on, doubles, and graphing. 5's pages will change to 6's pages, as they practice speed on basic math facts on 90 second quizzes.

RESPECT for God, others and myself is the measuring stick for behavior. I see students are responsive to me, following directions more quickly, and learning to give me their attention when the bell rings or my finger goes up. I enjoy starting the day by shaking each child's hand!

Thank you for your prayerful support of what is happening at ECA and in 2nd grade.

For the children's sake,
Mrs. Glenda Moyer

Getting ready

Dear second graders' parents,

This is my newest form of communication, with lots of help from Ms. Olivera. I hope you enjoyed our ECA picnic today as much as I did. I heard a family lost a lot of sleep last night, preparing the food. Mrs. Munoz always lives up to her reputation for attractive, delicious meals!

Today in class, we began practicing procedures for moving around in our room, and giving attention to the teacher. I told my life story, about my family, children, and a car accident. Students will take turns bringing in a poster full of photos, and telling stories about their lives. This is excellent public speaking practice. I will send a sign up sheet soon.

I have green folders and colored pencil boxes to sell, if your child would like. Folder costs $1.000; pencil case costs $2.000.

We will turn one folder into a F.R.O.G.S. to organize papers that travel between your home and school. This is For Responsible Organized and Growing Students! We will try to catch any real frogs that comme hopping by, too!

I will try to update this blog weekly, even though the photos may not change that often. When the computer cooperates with me, I will include homework assignments here.

We are off to a strong start. Pray I'll depend on God and not my own experience or wisdom. Thank you!

For growing students,
Mrs. Glenda Moyer
